Hi, there,
Today we're going to remind you of the power of FlashCards.
We'll look at two great ideas to help you pass your 3 tests in :
* CÉ (Reading Comprehension),
* EÉ (Written Expression, Grammar),
* EO (Oral Expression).
Let's get started!
1) Flashcards can help you eliminate mistakes and errors :
(Grammar: morphology, syntax, punctuation; Vocabulary; Phonetics, etc.)
During your oral test, you'll need to speak with as few mistakes as possible.
Your assessor, at 22 Eddy street, will allow a few mistakes. But making too many mistakes will penalize you.
There are two kinds of mistake.
- Those that don't interfere with communication.
- Those that do interfere with communication (will be penalized).
So how can you eliminate your mistakes and errors with Flash Cards?
When you make a mistake, note the correct form on one side of a card, and the English translation on another.
For example, during your conversation with your teacher, you said, "La
Canada est un country
multiethnique."
You should say: «Le Canada est un pays multiethnique.»
So write that on one side of your flash card.
And on the other side: "Canada is a multiethnic country."
Now, practice:
Simple as 1, 2, 3.
1) Read the English sentence.
2) Say it in French, without looking at the translation.
3) Check the French translation and read it! (out loud). Memorize it!
You need to test yourself several times, to make sure you don't make the mistake again.
When you make a mistake in French class or in other circumstances, and you're corrected, don't think that your brain has registered the right form, one for all, and that you won't make mistakes again.
The adult brain (andragogy) is capricieux. Hard at work. Sometimes he plays leapfrog.
Using the flash card technique, you need to erase
the previous shape already present in your brain and rewrite
the right shape in your mind. In this way, the right form becomes automatic.
NB: An Excel-style page can also be used as a Flashcard.
In over 10 years of teaching PFL2 French to Canadian civil servants, we've seen learners who, when corrected, thought they'd never make that mistake or error again. And yet, they do it again and again; right up to the exam, when it is late; when it's too late...
However, some students have seen their mistakes and errors erased from their minds with the Flashcard technique. So think about it!
2) Flash Cards can help you memorize words, phrases, sentences, etc.
Flashcards can help you pass your three Canadian Public Service tests.
The Flashcard technique can help you memorize a huge number of : verbs, adverbs, adjectives, linking words, etc.
Memorize a large number of sentences, complex turns of phrase, complex verb forms, hypothetical sentences, all kinds of conjugations, idiomatic expressions, proverbs, etc.
You need it to speed up your training and pass your three Canadian public service tests with ease.
Especially the oral test, which is the most difficult. Again, think about it!
